Terrence heard the panicky whimper of a young lady. Although it was faint, he could tell it was coming from nearby. He turned a corner into another part of an alley way where he spied the lady through a crack in a stack of cardboard boxes. As he got closer, he saw that she was huddled against the brick wall trembling violently. He could tell she had been through a nightmarish ordeal and cautiously approached her.

"You all right?" he asked sympathetically. Of course he knew she wasn't, but was at a loss for more meaningful words.

The brown haired lady looked up at him and he could now see tears streaming down her face. She attempted to wipe them away as he continued to approach her. The lady shook her head and Terrence knelt down in front of her. "What happened?" he asked.

Of course, now that he was this close, she could see what he truly was and her eyes went wide. She looked ready to scream but before she could, Terrence covered her mouth with his right hand and quickly tried to assure her she wasn't in any danger. His words were all run together so it sounded like, "I'mnotgoingtohurtyousodon'tscream."

A muffled, "Hmm?" was the response he received and he took her hand away from her mouth, moved back a bit and put his hands behind his back.

"See? Not gonna hurt you...I promise." Terrence then raised his right hand. When he didn't receive much of a response in return, save for the confused, wide-eyed stare, he put his hand down and added, "You must have been through something insanely scary, darling."

The lady nodded. "A-another vampire almost-" She stopped as Terrence winced slightly and then continued, "I-I thought...I was...I mean...his fangs c-came towards me...b-but something m-made him...jump back?"

Terrence looked her over and pointed to her necklace. "You have a cross around your neck."

She pulled the golden cross charm forward. "This m-made him leave? But if you're a-also a vampire...why aren't you b-bothered by it?"

He shrugged a bit. "Maybe because my mother dragged me to church every Sunday until I was 25? Maybe because I still have some sense of a conscience? I actually dunno, but religious symbols don't bother me for some reason." Then he held out his hand. "C'mon, let's get you outta here, young lady."

"Melody," she said as she timidly took his hand. "Melody Whittaker."

"Pretty name," he complimented as he helped her up. "I'm Terrence Allenby."

"Nice to meet you," Melody replied. She was feeling a bit more at ease, though she was still cautious of this fanged stranger.

"How did you get here anyway?" Terrence asked.

"Oh...my boyfriend and I had a fight and he...well, left me here and drove off. I don't...think he knew that...and even if I told him what happened...I-I doubt he'd believe me," Melody answered.

"Well...telling him the truth is up to you...but if you wanted to, you could say someone put a knife to your throat. It's not that far off, honestly."

"And h-how did I escape?"

"I came to your rescue?" Terrence suggested with a grin.

She gave him a look but then smiled at him. "Sure, why not?"

Once they both were at the edge of the alley, they could see headlights moving down the nearby street. "That's probably him, huh?" Terrence asked.

Melody nodded.

"You sure you're all right to go back with him? Because if he's abusing you-"

She shook her head. "N-no, it's not like that. It was just a stupid fight and he's never hit me."

The car that the headlights belonged to, a black Chevy Cobalt, stopped in front of them. A man with dark brown hair stepped out and looked over Terrence and Melody. "That's Todd," Melody said, pointing to her boyfriend.

"What happened to you, babe?" Todd asked. He could see she was still shaking a bit and had been crying.

"I w-was attacked and he," Melody began as she pointed at Terrence, "Helped save me."

Todd tried to size up Terrence. He certainly didn't look like the type that could fight off anyone. "Oh? And what did you do?" Todd asked Terrence with a disbelieving glare.

"This," Terrence replied as he pounced on Todd and pinned him to the ground.

Todd stared back at Terrence, quite stunned. Terrence just smiled and remarked, "You didn't believe I could do that, did ya?" Of course when he smiled, Todd noticed Terrence's fangs. Before Todd could say anything, Terrence covered his mouth.

Melody gasped, not knowing what Terrence was about to do.

"Look, why don't you take her home? She's going to need a good night's sleep...and maybe some therapy after what she's been through." Terrence then stood up and glared at Todd. "Now get up, asshole."

Todd slowly got to his feet and walked over to Melody. "You...uh...ready to go?" She nodded and followed him back to the car.

As they drove off, Terrence watched the car drive off until he could no longer see it. He sure hoped Melody was going to be okay and that her jerk of a boyfriend had learned his lesson. He wondered if there was anything else he should have done but thought that maybe it wasn't his place.

I wonder if I'll ever see her again, he thought to himself as he began to walk home.
